New Day, New Heroes: India’s Medal Rush Continues at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

India’s remarkable campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow continues to gather pace, with another impressive collection of medals adding to the nation’s growing tally. While the country’s earlier medal winners laid a strong foundation, a fresh group of athletes has now stepped forward with inspiring performances, proving that India’s strength extends across multiple sporting disciplines. From weightlifting and athletics to para-athletics, these achievements reflect the hard work, dedication and resilience of Indian sport.

Weightlifter Harjinder Kaur once again demonstrated her consistency on the international stage by winning the silver medal in the women’s 69 kg event. Producing a personal best total of 227 kg, she battled strongly throughout the competition to secure another major medal for India. Her achievement further reinforced India’s reputation as one of the strongest nations in Commonwealth weightlifting and added another memorable chapter to her successful career.

Indian athletics also celebrated a historic moment as Gulveer Singh claimed the silver medal in the men’s 10,000 metres. Competing against a world-class field, he delivered a determined and disciplined performance to become one of the few Indian long-distance runners to win a Commonwealth Games medal. His success highlighted the steady rise of Indian distance running and marked another significant milestone for Indian athletics.

There was more joy on the track and field as Murali Sreeshankar secured the silver medal in the men’s long jump. Locked in a thrilling contest until the very end, Sreeshankar produced a best leap of 8.09 metres and missed the gold medal by just a few centimetres. Although he finished second, his consistency, composure and fighting spirit once again established him among the finest long jumpers in the Commonwealth.

India’s para-athletes continued to script history with a spectacular performance in the men’s 100 metres T47 event. Dilip Gavit sprinted to a memorable gold medal, producing a Commonwealth Games record run to become India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games para-athletics track champion. His victory was not only a personal triumph but also a landmark moment for Indian para-sport, reflecting the growing excellence of the country’s para-athletes on the international stage.

Adding to the celebrations, Mohammed Basil claimed the silver medal in the very same event, ensuring a historic Indian one-two finish in the men’s T47 100 metres. Watching two Indian athletes stand together on the podium was a proud moment for the nation and a powerful reminder of the remarkable progress Indian para-athletics has made in recent years. Their outstanding performances inspired millions and showcased the depth of talent emerging across the country.

What makes India’s campaign even more encouraging is the variety of sports contributing to the medal tally. Weightlifting continues to deliver consistently, athletics is producing podium finishes across different events, and para-athletics is creating history with every passing day. Established names are continuing to excel while newer faces are seizing their opportunity on one of the biggest sporting stages in the Commonwealth.

As the Commonwealth Games move towards their concluding stages, India’s athletes continue to inspire with their determination, perseverance and unwavering commitment to excellence. Every medal represents years of sacrifice, countless hours of training and an unshakeable belief in their dreams. Glasgow has become a stage where Indian athletes are not only winning medals but also creating moments that will be remembered for years to come.
