My Home!

Rashmi sat down on the cane swing hanging at the ceiling of her room near the window opening towards the small park. She recalled how happy she was when her father brought this cane swing for her. The whole day she would sit on it, read her story books, listen to music and she will talk endlessly to her friends on mobile during her teenage years.

Her carefree and happy years were flashing Before her eyes.

Rashmi was busy in her thoughts when her parents entered her room. Rashmi held her mother’s hand and said, “Ma tomorrow I will get married and will have to leave my nest. I have to go to my new home. Will I be able to adjust there? New people, new places, new things, everything would be new. I have created precious memories with you all, with my cousins and my friends and neighbours. Since childhood, I have lived here and for me this is my home where my heart belongs to then why do Dadi say that this is not my home anymore? How can I imagine my life without you both, Ma and Papa? I can’t tell how much I am going to miss all my belongings, this swing which you gifted me on my birthday, Papa. Do you remember Ma how excited I was on seeing this pink and lilac wardrobe and dressing table? The whole day I would sit here and do makeup. And that small corner where I keep all my books. Every single thing in this room is my choice and this is my happy place. Will I get enough liberty to arrange my room as per my wish in my new home? Will I get the same love from my new family and my new home Papa just like I have received here Ma? Will you both treat me like a guest from tomorrow just because I will shift to a new house?

“No, not at all, beta. This home will always remain yours. You can come and go anytime”, said her mother.

“Now be happy and forget all your worries and smile”, her father put his hands on her head and assured her.

All these questions and doubts were threatening Rashmi and were snatching her happiness of getting married. But her parents’ love made her forget her worries and she smiled like a small girl.

“Yes Papa, Maybe I am going to a new home but this home will always remain mine. This entire house identifies my touch, recognises my voice and  can never forget me. Yes, I am getting married and going to start a new journey but that will not break my ties with my home. This is my home and will always remain mine forever”, Rashmi said with a charming smile and hugged her parents.
