As we all know this year Birmingham (England) Commonwealth Games have begun on 28-July-2022 and it will go on till 08-August-2022. The motto of the Commonwealth Games is Sports is the beginning of all. The official opening ceremony was done by Charles, The Prince of Wales on 28th July 2022 and will be closed by TBA on 08-August-2022. The main venue of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games is Alexander Stadium.

Excitement about the Commonwealth Games so far for India

The Indian Group has 322 members for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.

For the first time in Indian history, Commonwealth Games introduced Women’s Cricket which is a new start and new opportunity for India to gain the lead.

So far in Birmingham 2022, India has won 10 medals including 4 Golds, 3 Silvers, and 3 Bronze medals. Most of the medals are grabbed from the Weightlifting category both men’s and women’s. The Indian Weightlifting category is one of the strongest categories and every time there are much more and more expectations attached to the players from the category.

As far as we talk about the Indian Women’s Cricket team, the Indian Women’s Cricket team lost the first match with Australia, however, the Indian Women’s Cricket team defeated Pakistan by 8 wickets in Commonwealth Games 2022. Pakistan won the toss, and Pakistani team captain Bismah Maroof choose to bat first. The team was all out for 99 runs in 18 overs. Team India under the Captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, chased the target in no time and score 100 by losing only 2 wickets.

Commonwealth Games 2018-India-‘s Performance

Before going with the list of medals won so far this year, let’s have look at the previous Commonwealth games event 2018. India competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia from 4 to 15 April 2018. It was India’s 17th appearance at the Commonwealth Games. With 26 Gold medals and a total of 66 medals, India finished 3rd in the tournament. It was India’s best position since the 2010 Commonwealth Games, which they hosted.

Mirabai Chanu brings the first gold medal for India in Weightlifting Women’s 49kg, in Commonwealth Games 2022

Weightlifting women’s 55kg: Bindyarani Devi won the Silver medal

Weightlifting men’s 55kg: Sanket Sargar won the Silver medal

Weightlifting men’s 61kg: Gururaja Poojary won the Bronze medal

Weightlifting men’s 73kg: Anchinta Sheuli won the Gold medal

Weightlifting men’s 67kg: Jeremy Lalrinnunga won the Gold medal

Women’s Judo 48kg: Shushila Likmabam won the Silver medal

Men’s Judo 60kg: Vijay Kumar Yadav won Bronze Medal

Weightlifting women’s 71kg: Harjinder Kaur won the Silver Medal

Indian Lawn Bowls women’s Team won Gold Medal (Historic win)

Currently India ranking 6th in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 Medal Tally with 9 medals. Australia is ranking first on the medal tally of Commonwealth Games 2022. The Australian team is leading with 22 Gold medals, 13 silver medals, and 17 Bronze medals. The total medal Won by Australia is 52.

What so far?


Birmingham Commonwealth Games is getting more interesting as Indian women created history by ensuring the first ever medal in Lawn Bowls at CWG Birmingham 2022. India usually relied heavily on weightlifters for a long time, but medals in Judo and an ensured medal in Lawn Bowls are making the competition more interesting and the hopes of Indian sports lovers are now at a high peak. The Indian women’s fours lawn bowls team made history as they won a gold medal on 02-August-2022. The team of Lovely Choubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinki, and Nayanmoni Saikia made history as they became the first Indians in CWG history to win a gold medal in the sport.

Finger crossed with best hopes for the medal count to be increased. INDIA, INDIA!
