“Can anyone gauge the level of tolerance?”
Usually, we hear, “How sad, the women are tolerating all the torture and beatings of a husband.”
But some men also go through this torture silently, which is not noticed by many.
In general, the women are the targets. Education, at times, does not come in handy to STOP such tortures. We all see the poor and downtrodden women suffer more than is seen by many but are helpless to help them in any way. Their drunken husbands torture them mentally and physically day and night. It can be noticed when they come to work the next morning. Their eyes are swollen, and there are bruises on her body.
We can only console them, and even if we want to help them, my maid says, ”It is ok; he will come and abuse you all with his bad words as he will not change, and this is my destiny to suffer.”
The social workers in their bastis also try to help them. They complain to the police and put them behind bars, and after a few months, they come out free, and the same story continues.
Some educated women, too, are helpless. The reasons may be their children, whom they love and cannot leave and go. Such women may be few, and some may separate and stay alone with their children.
But what about the mental condition of the children?
The girls are brought up in earlier years to keep quiet in any situation. Not to let out their emotions outwardly. They were overprotected from the evil eyes of society. Many girls were married by 12 to 14 and became the mothers of five to six children by the age of 22. No one listened or noticed their tears shed or their condition.
We have seen our grandmothers and mothers silently hiding their feelings with a smile and doing their duties.
As the years rolled, women were educated and lived a better life. Still, some faced the trauma of torture but were helpless to talk about it loudly.
Now, when women try to come out of their shells and try to be independent, people talk about them, “ How can she make such decisions? She has to think of her children.”
A strange world, I see!.
There are laws, but how many get justice? The poor women are the worst sufferers, and some of their children turn into criminals.
My prayers to the Lord are to bring a day when all women can live peacefully, take care of their families, and enjoy their lives happily.
