The starfish (SF), that’s me… and the sea turtle (ST)

SF: “Dil hai chotasa, choti si aashaaaa”.. Stops and chuckles.

ST: “Why did you stop? I love this song!”

SF: “Hey Turtloo, how are you? I missed you so much; I haven’t seen you for more than a week now!” the starfish queried anxiously.

ST: “Star baby, summer has set in with a blast, so I went into my shell for a cool relaxation.”

SF: “Oh, come on, Turtloo, we live in the sea, and water around us is the best coolant for this weather, isn’t it?”

ST: “True, dear, but of late, the water here is so polluted, an oldie like me is not able to stay out for long.”

SF: “Oh, that’s right. I thought I could take you for a swim around and also a treat at Mama Whale’s Café.”

ST: “Aha, so what is the occasion, my dear best friend?”

SF: “I have met you, and that’s the moment we need to celebrate, right?”

ST: “So, so sweet of you, dear. I’ve been missing you as well! Come on, let’s go.”

SF: “Hey, let’s take the shortcut, swim across this reedway, and reach the water lane on the opposite side.”

(Both SF and ST swim across, chuckling and hugging each other.)

SF: “Ouch, what is this? Something pinched me on my cheek, and it hurts too.”

ST: “Let me see, dear. Oh, it’s a part of a cable wire, I think! The metal protruding must have scratched your cheek.”

SF: “Aah, that’s such a bad scratch I received!”

ST: “Maybe we can get some healing gel at the seahorse pharmacy around this corner and apply it; you may feel better.”

SF: “Not now, Turtloo, let’s get to the café first; I am hungry.”

ST: “Ok, take care when you dive; these harmful things are getting in our way more often these days. I don’t remember anything like this as a child, in the premises of the sea!”

SF: “People on land call it the technology revolution and think they have improved the universe!”

ST: “Could be, but we sea creatures are suffering, and our lives are at stake now!”

SF: “But I assume they are not aware of the hazards these things are causing to the sea and us, the inmates here!”

ST: “Human beings definitely know about it, but they are not much bothered about this or not aware that their ‘technical waste,’ as they call it, is slowly killing us all!”

SF: “Hey, see this? Is it some sort of edible or chewy thing? So colorful too!”

ST: “Hey, no, don’t even put your mouth on it; it’s just a big pack of broken items made of different-colored plastic! The worst slow poison for mankind, and since it’s thrown here, for us too!”

SF: “And I thought people on land were intelligent!” Laughs aloud.

ST: “Yes, they are, but recently, their real intelligence has become outdated, and artificial intelligence is in fashion!” Joins laughing with her best friend.

ST continues, “We used to fear the nets of fishermen in those days, but now I think this technology and its dangerous byproducts are scarier and will get us all extinct very soon! Already many of our friends here are missing, and I have no company other than you, my dear!”

SF: “What can we do about it, dear? Is there anything that can help us?” hugs the sea turtle.

ST: “That’s a question I have no answer to. Only if people on land realise their limits, open their eyes, and get kinder to us sea creatures can we be saved!”

SF: “Let’s hope for the best to happen, dear. Now cheer up, we’ve reached Mama Whale’s Café! And let me give you a perfect treat now!”

ST: “Yes, very true. Hope mama whale serves good, authentic recipes instead of fashionable junk food.”

Both hold hands and enter the cafe and enjoy their meal.
