The Bitter Taste Of Words

Anjali and Rohan were in love with eachother. Rohan was rich and Anjali was a middle class girl. Somehow after convincing their parents regarding their love , both of them got married and started their life together.

Rohan’s family sent both of them on a foreign vacation for their honeymoon. Both of them were very happy to go to Singapore for their honeymoon. During the honeymoon, Rohan tried to force Anjali to eat Non Vegetarian dishes like egg, chicken and mutton, but Anjali refused as she was from a Brahmin family. Rohan got angry with her, as he loved non-vegetarian food. He started to use very unkind words regarding Anjali’s taste of food.

Anjali was a simple girl. Rohan wanted her to wear a short dress for her during the honeymoon, which she refused. She told him that it was against her culture and tradition.  Many differences started to crop up between the two of them. Because of little, little differences, their love marriage was suddenly turning out to be bitter.

Anjali’s choice of clothes was also very simple, whereas Rohan tried to choose for her strapless dresses, which were very expensive and to be worn in parties. Anjali was shy to carry off such clothes with confidence. During the honeymoon every day, Rohan would fight with her and try to force his choice on her, but Anjali would refuse him completely.

Anjali didn’t know how to dance. Rohan took her to a disco party to dance with him, but Anjali was very embarrassed, shy and uncomfortable to dance along with him. Because of the growing differences between them , Rohan started using bad words at her and would criticize her very existence. Everyday he would use bitter words at her.

Rohan had very high expectations from Anjali when he got married. However , now all turned out to be a nightmare for both of them because of their different backgrounds, cultures, status and upbringing. Rohanwould also pinpoint Anjali’s middle-class mentality and always curse her very nature.

Anjali’s honeymoon became a living hell. She felt that Rohan was a better person before marriage. All her love for Rohan was shattered in coming to know his true nature. She was very hurt with his abusive tongue and choice of harsh and bitter words. She felt too much social injustice was being done to her. She became very unhappy with the relationship and felt mentally tortured every day of the honeymoon.

Anjali wanted to go back to India soon and separate from Rohan as soon as possible. She was unable to bear his bitter taste of social injustice done to her at every stage. As soon as they arrived in India, she told Rohan about her decision about a separation, as it would be better for them and both the families.

Soon they got divorced and started their lives fresh, as both their expectations from each other did not match. After their separation, they felt happy again to make a new beginning to their lives. Anjali began writing poems and stories to make a fresh start. While Rohan married a rich girl of his liking and choice and who would go according to his taste.

Here is a poem on The Bitter Taste Of words :

Words can be sweet

words can be sour

Words can show anger and heat

Words from the heart just pour

Words of various emotions

Are vast as the ocean

Rudeness, grudge and hate

Make their way into your life, early or late

Pulling some one’s leg

Making someone beg

Frustration, sadness, depression

Sometimes just sets in

Grief, crying and annoying

Cheating, feeling miserable and lying

Can all be accompanied

By betrayal and being denied

Sometimes such emotions are not palpable

And can spoil relations that are applicable

So control your words

As they can sound bitter and hurt
