Anahat Singh Clinches Women’s Under-17 Title at British Junior Open 2025

Indian squash prodigy Anahat Singh has added yet another feather to her already illustrious cap by winning the Women’s Under-17 title at the prestigious British Junior Open 2025. The top-seeded 16-year-old triumphed over Egypt’s Malika Elkaraksy in a gripping five-game final held at the Glass Court of the University of Birmingham.

In an intense battle of skill and determination, Anahat rallied to defeat her second-seeded opponent 3-2 (4-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-5, 11-3), showcasing her resilience and composure under pressure. The victory marks Anahat’s third British Junior Open title, following her successes in the Under-11 category in 2019 and the Under-15 category in 2023.

This win is particularly significant for Anahat, who faced heartbreak last year when she fell short in the Under-17 final against Egypt’s Nadien Elhammamy. Her triumph in Birmingham not only redeems that loss but also cements her status as one of the brightest young talents in the global squash circuit.

A Stellar Achievement in a Prestigious Tournament

The British Junior Open is one of the most coveted events in junior squash, attracting 699 participants this year across 10 categories. The tournament serves as a proving ground for emerging talent, and Anahat’s success amidst such fierce competition speaks volumes about her exceptional abilities and dedication to the sport.

The final match against Malika Elkaraksy was a rollercoaster of emotions. After losing the first game 4-11, Anahat displayed remarkable tenacity to level the score in the second. Though Malika regained the lead in the third game, Anahat’s unyielding spirit saw her dominate the final two games, closing out the match with a commanding 11-3 finish.

A Year of Unstoppable Success

Anahat’s victory in Birmingham extends her extraordinary winning streak into 2025. The teenager had an exceptional run last year, clinching nine PSA Challenger titles — the highest by any woman in the 2024 season. Her achievements include successfully defending both her Indian senior and junior national titles, further underlining her dominance on home soil.

Additionally, Anahat made history by breaking into the top 100 of the Women’s Professional Squash Association (PSA) rankings for the first time. She is currently ranked World No. 82 in the senior rankings, a remarkable feat for someone so young.

A Role Model for Aspiring Athletes

Anahat Singh’s journey is an inspiration for aspiring athletes across India and beyond. Her commitment to the sport, coupled with her ability to learn from setbacks, has set her apart as a true champion. At just 16, she has already achieved what many can only dream of, and her latest victory is a testament to her relentless pursuit of excellence.

Looking Ahead

With three British Junior Open titles under her belt and a promising professional career ahead, Anahat Singh is undoubtedly a star in the making. Her triumph in Birmingham not only elevates her stature on the international stage but also brings pride to Indian squash fans.

As she continues to rise through the ranks, Anahat’s journey promises to be one worth following. Her grit, skill, and passion for squash are sure to inspire a new generation of players to take up the sport and strive for greatness.

Congratulations, Anahat Singh, on a well-deserved victory!
