India – It’s Celebrations and Festivals 

In India, there are various Gods and Goddesses. Each one is associated with a mythological stories and Legends. The Hindus believe in Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Goddess Durga, Goddess Lakshmi etc. The Christians believe in Lord Jesus , whereas the Muslims believe in Allah.Various festivities are also involved with these God and Goddesses.

We celebrate the birth of Lord Jesus as Christmas. The birth of Lord Ganesh as Ganesh Chaturthi. During Deepawali Goddess Lakshmi is prayed. Each house is lit with Diyas. Id ul fitr is celebrated by muslims.

Whatever be the occasion the community folklore celebrate festivities and believe in the stories of the festivals. They celebrate each festival with full honor, trust and geity. Lord Krishna’s birthday is celebrated by breaking the Dahi handi, as lord Krishna was very fond of butter. 

The Christian folklore celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ as Christmas. Various Carlos are sung by the folklore and they go to church to pray and dance The singers sing in the Christmas choir and wish each other.

Dasara is celebrated by burning of The Ravana by Lord Rama. Nav Ratri is celebrated by worshiping of the 9 Goddesses on 9 days. Goddess Durga is prayed in Navaratri. Dandiya dance is performed on a grand scale.

On Deepawali, the coming of Lord Rama back to Ayodhya after 14 years in exile is celebrate by firecrackers & prayers .Houses are cleaned and Diyas are lit. Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated of the monkey God. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated of the Elephant God , the God of success. 

Shiv Ratri is celebrated as the marriage of Shiv and Parvati. Lord Shiva is offered milk at every shiv temple. Holi, the festival of colours is celebrated with sprinkling colour among the folklore. Karva chauth is celebrated by wives for the long life of their husbands.

Among Punjabi’s Baisakhi is celebrated. In Kerala, Onam is celebrated. Among the Sindhi’s, Chettichand is celebrated as the Sindhi New Year and Lord Jhulelal is worshipped. Whatever be the occasion, different cultures have different traditions which are performed and believed.The Folklore believe in the Legend behind the celebration and continue to pass on to the next generation.

The Telugus and Tamils  celebrate Pongal or BhogI, the harvest festival in south India. Bihu an important festival is celebrated in Assam with its traditional dance. In India , they are many dance forms in various states like Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam etc. Different states have different attire to show their diversity. 

The new year is celebrated by one and all unanimously. The passing of the old year and the welcoming of the new year is celebrated by all religions in a grand manner. Burning of firecrackers, dancing to old and new numbers, wearing of new clothes, distribution of sweets and changing of the calendar are done by everyone in welcoming the new year.

Hence, various countries in the world have different traditions and legends which their folklore believe and celebrate. As humans, we must respect every religion and culture and safeguard humanity as a whole!

India is a land of several festivals 

that are celebrated by freedom of free will

In India there are many languages

India is the land of the holy sages

With its diverse cultural differences 

India celebrates its unity and oneness

Punjabi’s, Telugu, Tamil or Marwadi 

Malyali, Parsi Marathi or Sindhi

all make up India’s diversity 

living together in prosperity 

India is a unique land

to explore, express and expand 

To win people’s heart

and give their lives a fresh new start!
