The scene is a house with a drawing room set with two chairs and a sofa. There is someone ringing the bell frantically.
Mom: Oh ho, what is it? Why are you pressing down on the bell?
Lata: Mom, mom! Open the door quickly.
Mom (opens the door): Lata? I thought you were meeting Amal today. What happened?
Lata: Oh mom! I don’t want to see his face again. I have been trying to reach him for the past few days. But he kept ignoring me. Then he broke up with me over text! How disgusting. Today, I went to our favourite coffee shop to see if I could speak to him. But he wasn’t there at the time we usually meet. (she sobbed) I waited for nearly an hour and then he walked in with some other girl. They sat close together and started whispering to each other. It was obvious that something was going on between them.
Mom: So did you confront him?
Lata: No, mom! I did not have the guts. The asshole! We’d been together for 5 years and this is what he does to me? I want him to die….Mom (with a sinister smile): Are you sure about that?
Lata (looking at her): What do you mean, mom?
Mom: Do you remember Nair uncle?
Lata: That lecherous old man who used to visit our home in Kerala when I was six years old?
Mom: Yes, the very same! You do know that he died of a heart attack right?
Lata: Yes. I thought that his sins had caught up with him. He tried to feel me up so many times. I am so glad, mom, that you believed me when I complained to you.
Mom: Well…. he didn’t die of natural causes for sure.
Lata: What? But the family did an autopsy, and everything was thoroughly checked. I remember that he was very rich and his family did not want any doubts to be cast on them.
Mom (grins): Yes, but they do not have the kind of knowledge about medicinal plants that I do. Why don’t you invite Amal home for tea? We can have some fun…Lata (looks at her mom incredulously)
