India Shines with 3 Gold and 2 Silver Medals at the International Physics Olympiad 2025

A golden chapter in India’s scientific journey

In a remarkable triumph for Indian science and education, India secured a stunning total of five medals – three gold and two silver – at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2025, reaffirming its status as a global powerhouse in Physics among pre-university students.

Held this year with participation from 87 countries and 415 students, the IPhO continues to be one of the most competitive and prestigious platforms in the world. The Indian contingent stood tall, bagging a fifth-place finish in the medals tally, jointly with nations like Taiwan, Japan, and Russia (which participated under the Olympiad flag).

The gold medals were proudly brought home by:

  • Kanishk Jain from Pune, Maharashtra
  • Snehil Jha from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh
  • Riddhesh Anant Bendale from Indore, Madhya Pradesh

The silver medals were secured by:

  • Aagam Jignesh Shah from Surat, Gujarat
  • Rajit Gupta from Kota, Rajasthan

The United States claimed the top spot with a full sweep of five gold medals. Following closely were South Korea, China, and Hong Kong, who tied for second place, each securing four gold and one silver.

  • 42% of Indian participants have historically bagged gold medals
  • Another 42% earned silver
  • 11% secured bronze
  • 5% received honourable mentions

What stands out is India’s unbroken medal-winning streak in the past decade – every single participant has returned with a medal. Even more impressively, 58% of these medals were gold, highlighting the exceptional talent nurtured within the country.
