She looked at the b.p machine and smiled, It was time. She peeped outside the window her children and grandchildren were there, finally after begging to them for these many years they reached Kanser, maybe they were pretty sure Sheela won’t survive this time. Saloni entered from the transparent glass door and said, “Finally, they remembered you or are they here to check your and uncle’s will.”
I could only smile at her words. Eighteen year old Saloni was the reason Sheela survived after stroke, her kids did only a few good things for her in their entire life one of them maybe the first best thing was bringing the little Saloni to take care of her. Although paid but Saloni’s love and affection were pure and genuine for her.
“Sheela, was his full name Kishore Banerjee?” Sheela’s eyes blinked making a distinct expressions of her wrinkled face. Sheela told Saloni about Kishore but never mentioned his surname to her.
Sheela blinked in a yes to Saloni. “He’s in the ICU. You always complain about my eavesdropping but this time it helped.” Saloni laughed and then held Sheela’s hands, “Sheela, I enquired more about him he’s the same Kishore, only yours!!”
Kishore Banerjee, Sheela remembered the 14 year old Kishore entering into the classroom; shy and showing all the traits of an introvert. He sat next to her and it started the moment they exchanged those glances. The love at first sight for both of them. Sheela proposed him first just after a month and he didn’t even take a second thought he was always waiting for this.
Years passed they grew in love but somethings are not meant to be no matter how much we try they will break.
Kishore cheated on her and she couldn’t forgive him. She got married to Arnav and then she heard of Kishore’s marriage.
All the time Sheela wished to see him once just once and confront him why did he ruin such a beautiful love story. What was her fault! Sheela used to think the people who move on from one to another, is there an on/off button installed within them?
Sheela whispered slowly to Saloni, “Can I see him?”
“I knew you would demand like this, I will take you his children didn’t come yet his case worse than yours, He doesn’t have a Saloni to fulfill his wishes,” Saloni smiled.
Saloni took Sheela in a wheelchair to the third room in the same row. The nurse allowed her to enter for a few minutes.
Sheela looked at him and said slowly, “Aye taklu! (Hey baldie),” Kishore opened his eyes he had a blurry vision but he recognised her. He didn’t see the 83 year old Sheela but imagined the 14year old Sheelu her contagious smile and her almond shaped still had the same aura.
“Shhh,” He couldn’t finish the lines.
Kishore’s granddaughter entered the room and handed over an old diary in Sheela’s hands. It was tough for Sheela to see him like this she grabbed the diary and with moist eyes and a heavy heart left the room holding the diary tightly.
She read the last page of the diary…
Sheela one day I will meet you again to tell you that I never loved anyone I was never loved the way you loved me.
Sheela held Saloni’s hands tightly. The next morning wasn’t the same for Kishore he saw her and before he wished to see more of her and seek her forgiveness she was gone. He didn’t knew if she forgave him his guilt enhanced but he carried it he did wrong to her but atleast he could see her for the last time. Saloni handed over the diary to Kishore’s granddaughter and left. As Kishore’s granddaughter turned the last page she read aloud to Kishore,
“I don’t know whose fault it was, But I loved you I always did and unfortunately I always will maybe till my last breathe, I was divorced in first year of my marriage I wished to return to you to forgive you, to accept you but you went too far… I glad we met and I believe we will meet again… until we meet again,”
With love,
Sheelu.
Kishore closed his eyes peacefully and happily waiting to meet his beloved in eternity.
