Veda stood under sky a deep night blue, where floated a feathery edge of moon. She was staring deep into the unfathomable dark trying to fathom her crisis. How to cope up with something which sans all explanations? It’s been a year full …she still felt as if it’s yesterday. She and moira , her tiny girl were having picnic in the forest and she went lost…yes as if melted into air. Veda searched high and low. But sometimes found is more painful than lost!
Or why Moira returned back so changed! As if she never was the cuddly mamma’s girl. And today as Veda was standing against the stealthy darkness a heraldic imagination was flowing through her mind. Moira’s changed manner- refusal to eat anything but sunlight, preferring nature’s company always , as if she was a recluse forest bather. And today… Moira turned herself into … No Veda couldn’t tolerate .she followed her daughter in the deep of the forest. If it could be called a forest still?
Once vibrant ground is now deadly quiet. The leafy umbrellas are now skeletal. So were the Huldas(sandenavian forest spirits) Veda met . Veda couldn’t believe her eyes when they burst forth from ground with leafy bodies adorned with hewn tree crowns as if to wear their scar to intimidate the for. Was Veda a foe? Yeah, that’s what they called her. ” We are your one true family, and yet you hardly blink an eye when we are chopped ,hewn, pierced! You nurtured us as a child but as an adult you were corrupted enough to betray us.
Rather than green lives we became ‘gold’ for you. So it’s your punishment for betraying our love, that we will lose the dearest of your life, you daughter. Moira was kidnapped by us and groomed to be us . She would never return to you. Enough of compassion. Now nature will avenge herself.”, they cooed to her with blazing eyes.
Being engulfed by the darkness surrounding her she remembered how years ago she made a deal with high profit companies to sell out the verdant forest within her estate .
How she forgot the friendship with the trees. Her swings , their gift of flowers how she betrayed all.
Her parents oftenly used to quote from Blake- “to see heaven in a wild flower” . But how humans failed to receive heaven and reciprocate with hell of greed . Veda’s redemptive tears gushed down as if to irrigate mother earth with fresh hope .
