Prasad of Holi
prasad of holi

When I was 11-12 years old, we had gone to the village for Holi. My grandfather’s place Rang Panchami was more important than Holi. On the day of Rang Panchami, “Ahir” people used to come to the house to perform traditional dance and take prasad.

Batashe’s (Semi spherical sugar sweet) garland used to be offered during worship, lots of Batashe were threaded in white thread which was called “Hara”. After worship, everyone get one garland, Children used to wear those garlands around their neck and used to play Holi and also eat batasha one by one from the garland. They used to rotate the thread round and round as they ran out of threads. After the entire batashe was over, they used to break the thread and throw it away. Sometimes because of the color the garland of white batashe (Haraa) (green) turns really green.

Now the sweets that were offered to Grandfather is Cannabis sweets(Bhang) for enjoyment, so once when many boxes of sweets were kept on the table, we reached there and opened the box and ate the sweets, while my elder brother reached there. And shouted – Oh those are cannabis sweets how many have you eaten? now we are scared because we had never eaten cannabis, so we didn’t even know how it was.

Now after a while, the head started spinning but we were in the mood to playing, and didn’t pay much attention. My Elder brother told us to stay at home, don’t go anywhere. But we enjoy playing.

I was the youngest among all the children, so maybe I was more affected by cannabis and I was applying color to everyone. Grandfather does not like colors but I went among everyone and sprinkled color on him with a spray gun and got him wet my elder father and father scolded and chased him away.

After that, I went towards the main gate. The main gate of the house was made of 3 thick logs. Someone would pick up a log while going in or out and put the log back. It was a little evening too and I was going to my uncle’s house with my water gun which was a little far away on the other side of the gate.

I was getting engrossed in myself and got hit directly by the log and the other log hit me straight on the mouth and I fell down vertically backward. It hit so hard that it remained lying down for a while, someone had seen me falling, and he run towards me and picked me up.

Blood did not come out of my mouth but it felt very loud. Then after some time, I went to sleep after eating and drinking, when I woke up in the morning everyone was looking at me strangely, brothers and sisters were laughing. What happened was that, due to hitting the lips hard, my lips had turned outwards and had become very thick and swollen.

Even today, everyone laughs a lot remembering the memorable Holi, and then after that, we never ate the sweets that came in the Prasad of Holi.
