The 9th day of Navratri: Mahanavmi

This day is dedicated to the ninth form of Goddess Durga, Maa Siddhidatri. It is believed that Goddess Durga killed the demon Mahishasura on this day, and hence she is also known as Mahishasura Mardini. Maa Durga is worshipped as Mahisasura Mardini which means the Annihilator of the Buffalo Demon. It is believed that on Maha Navami day Durga killed the demon Mahishasura.

Devotees worship her on Maha Navami, and it is believed that she takes away ignorance from her devotees and grants them knowledge.

On the last day of the festival also known as Navami (ninth day), people pray to Siddhidhatri. Sitting on a lotus, she is believed to possess and bestows all types of Siddhis. Here she has four hands. Also known as Mahalakshmi, The purple colour of the day portrays an admiration towards nature’s beauty.

The 9th day of Navratri which is also called Maha Navami observes the worship of Goddess Siddhidatri, the 9th form of Nava Durga. 

Siddhi means supernatural power or the ability to achieve a sense of the ultimate source of creation and existence and Dhatri means the giver. You would be now able to relate to what Goddess Siddhidatri can boon us with. If we worship her, we may get the ultimate power to realize true existence. She is also said to help remove ignorance. According to the scriptures, there are 8 types of Siddhis – Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakyamya, Inshitva, Vashitva. She is one of the glorious aspects of Navadurga.

Maa Siddhidatri is immediately pleased with her devotees and achieves religion, meaning, work, and salvation in her world. On the 9th day of Navratri, devotees should put all their attention towards the Nirvana cycle. This chakra is located in the middle of our skull. By doing so, the devotees receive the power present in their Nirvana Chakra by the grace of mother Siddhidatri.
