The festival is celebrated for 9 nights and 10 days. Each day represents one of the avatars of Goddess Durga. Navratri is celebrated in different states with different styles but the meaning is the same to worship the avatars of Goddess Durga.

In some places like in the South, Navratri events are organized where Durga Puja Pandals are set up, in the state of Gujrat various events for Dandiya Nights are organized. Navratri also marks the beginning of the winter season in the North Region.

Navratri Day 1

Represents the Goddess Shailputri who is the incarnation of Goddess Parvati. On Day 1 we started celebrating Navratri by setting up Khetri (Seeds of wheat are put in one of the utensils made of mud ). We worship it for 8days and during that period of time, there is a restriction in our house not to use onion and garlic these days.

These traditions are followed in so many places. Fasting is also done during these nine days but it is not compulsory for all it is up to the willingness of the person. During fasting we used to eat Falahar means fruits and special food for fasting such as potato chips, meals made from rice flour, etc… During fasting use of wheat is restricted.

The celebration doesn’t end here… Stayed tuned for Day 2 celebration and its representation…
