Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the important festivals in the Hindu Religion. It is celebrated all over the country, especially in Maharashtra. I heard one of the stories behind Ganesh Chaturthi why it is celebrated and what is the importance of it.

Ganpati Bappa Morya

It had been believed that Ganeshji once visited Maharashtra as a guest and stayed there for 11 days. That’s why Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated for 11 days. The reason why we immersed the Idol of Ganeshji at the end of 11 days is that it is believed that Ganeshji took all the evils and sorrows in these 11 days on him and immersion of the idol of Ganeshji free from that all evils and spread happiness.

Usually, the idol made from Plaster of Paris was used in earlier days but due to awareness regarding the environment now people bring eco-friendly Ganesh Idol at their homes. This 11days long festival begins with people getting up in the morning, wearing new clothes, and offering Aarti to lord Ganesha. As a prasad, Modak is prepared and offered to Ganeshji. Modak is considered Ganeshji’s favourite sweet. Just as a mouse is considered as his vehicle.

Ganeshji also known as Vighnaharta, is believed Ganesha who removed all the obstacles from your life. May this Ganesh Chaturthi bring lots of Happiness and prosperity to everyone’s lives.
